Is it really October 31?

Whenever I think of Halloween I think of my Grandma. She never really said so but I think Halloween may have been her favorite holiday. I never saw her in a costume, I never saw her go to a party, I never remember her saying trick or treat, and I never ever remember her trying to scare someone. What I do remember is how she loved to come to our house and hand out candy.

She would stand by the front door and wait for each group of kids to work their way up the steps, hold open their bags, and say "trick or treat." It brought her so much joy. She would just smile and comment on how adorable they were or say "oh my" when someone tried to frighten her.

After the night was over my brothers and I would come home and dump all of our candy on the kitchen table. Caramels were her favorite so she would always pick out a few and say she was "saving them for later."

I am not really sure why my Grandma loved Halloween so much. Maybe it was just the simple act of giving and receiving a smile in return. Nothing is sweeter than that.
